Sustainability Policy by Al Hilal Group of Companies (UAE), aligned with the UAE Green Agenda 2030 and the key findings of the Sustainability Industry Report 2024 by Dubai Department of Economy & Tourism.
1. Purpose
This policy sets out Al Hilal’s commitment to embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) best-practices across our business. It defines our approach to reducing environmental impacts, safeguarding natural resources, enhancing social responsibility, and aligning with UAE national strategies for sustainability and a green economy.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all Al Hilal operations, including manufacturing, packaging, supply-chain, distribution, sales & support, and administrative functions. It covers employees, contractors, suppliers, and business partners who have a material impact on our sustainability objectives.
3. Policy Principles
Aligned with the UAE Green Agenda’s strategic objectives — Competitive Knowledge Economy; Social Development & Quality of Life; Sustainable Environment & Valued Natural Resources; Clean Energy & Climate Action; Green Life & Sustainable Use of Resources.
And reflecting the Sustainability Industry Report 2024 emphasis on environmental stewardship, social inclusion and leadership commitment.
Key principles:
- Resource Efficiency & Circularity: Design and operate products and packaging to minimise waste, maximise reuse/recycling, and reduce raw-material consumption.
- Low-Carbon & Clean Energy: Transition manufacturing and operations toward clean energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and support climate resilience.
- Sustainable Procurement & Supply Chain: Engage suppliers who meet recognised environmental and social standards; promote eco-friendly materials (e.g., compostable, plant-based, infinitely recyclable).
- Social Responsibility and Quality of Life: Promote safe, inclusive, and healthy workplaces; support local communities, and contribute to the UAE’s social development goals.
- Innovation & Knowledge-Driven Growth: Foster continuous innovation in hygiene, packaging and supply-chain solutions that lead to sustainable competitiveness.
- Transparency & Accountability: Monitor, measure and report our sustainability performance; ensure governance structures support our commitments.
4. Strategic Targets
To operationalise the above principles, Al Hilal commits to the following measurable targets:
- By 2027, transition at least 50% of our packaging materials to certified compostable or plant-based alternatives.
- By 2030, ensure 100% of our core products (hygiene, packaging, disposables) are produced from infinitely recyclable materials without quality loss.
- Achieve a 25% reduction in energy consumption per unit produced by 2028, compared to baseline year 2023.
- Source at least 30% of our energy from renewable/clean sources (solar, etc.) by 2030.
- Reduce Scope 1 & 2 GHG emissions by 40% by 2035, in line with UAE national climate goals.
- Engage 100% of strategic suppliers in sustainability assessments by 2026, ensuring they adhere to our supplier code of conduct.
- Provide annual sustainability training to all employees, and integrate ESG criteria into performance assessments by 2025.
Divert to recycling or reuse at least 80% of non-hazardous manufacturing waste by **2028.
5. Departmental Responsibilities
- Production & Packaging: Innovate packaging design, material substitution, optimise manufacturing efficiency, embed circular economy thinking.
- Supply Chain & Distribution: Select low-carbon logistics partners, optimise routes, recycle packaging returns, track supplier sustainability performance.
- Sales & Support Services: Educate customers on sustainable products, promote eco-friendly solutions, collect feedback for continuous improvement.
- Corporate/Administration: Monitor and report sustainability KPIs; ensure compliance with applicable regulations (UAE federal + emirate level); conduct internal audits.
- Procurement: Incorporate sustainability evaluation into supplier selection, prefer certified green materials, promote local sourcing to reduce transport emissions.
6. Governance & Reporting
- A Sustainability Committee, chaired by the Managing Director, shall meet quarterly to review progress, risks and opportunities.
- Annual Sustainability Report to be published and made publicly available, aligned with UAE and Dubai disclosure guidelines.
- Performance against the above targets will be included in the Annual Report and relevant stakeholder communications.
- Non-compliance or failure to progress will be reviewed by the Committee and corrective action taken.
7. Employee Engagement & Culture
- Provide mandatory sustainability orientation for all new hires.
- Encourage employee-led “Green Initiatives” that promote reduction of waste, water, energy at site level.
- Recognise and reward teams or individuals who achieve significant sustainability improvements.
8. Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with customers, suppliers and partners to promote shared sustainability goals.
- Collaborate with industry associations, regulatory bodies and the UAE’s national sustainability initiatives.
- Provide transparency to investors and clients on our sustainability commitments and performance.
9. Continuous Improvement
We recognise that sustainability is a journey. We will periodically review this policy (at least every two years), update targets and strategies in line with emerging best practices, technology changes and regulatory developments (e.g., future amendments to the UAE Green Agenda or the Dubai sustainability ecosystem).
10. Approval & Implementation
This policy is approved by the Board of Al Hilal Group of Companies. All business units and departments are required to adopt it and integrate its principles into their planning, operations and culture.
